Abstract
The correction system has a directional coupler (C) between a signal source (A) (e.g. a transmitter) and a load (E) (e.g. an aerial). The coupler produces two signals: one describing the direct transmitted power and the other the power reflected from the load. The system processes these two signals using mixers to produce dc signals proportional to the direct transmitted power (PdA) and the reflected power (PrA). The dc signals can be used to monitor standing waves in the line and/or to match the aerial. The first mixer (M1) combines the transmitter's output (VA) with the coupler's direct power output. A second mixer (M2) combines the transmitter's output shifted in phase by 90 deg (G) with the coupler's direct power output. The outputs of the two mixers are LP filtered (F1, F2) and combined (J) to produce the wanted dc signal proportional to direct transmitted power. The reflected power output (PrA) is handled in the same way.
