Abstract

Textile materials are dyed by impregnating or printing with a dye compsn. contg. an aromatic hydroxy cpd. as solvent, and fixing at elevated temp. in the vapour of an azeotropic mixt. of the same solvent and water. Amt. of solvent in the dye bath or paste is sufficient to form an azeotropic mixt. with water. Used in dyeing or printing of synthetic or natural fibres, or blends of these, with dyes of all types. Yield and fixing grade of the dye are improved by a factor of 1.3-2, reducing the dye content of effluent water. Compsn. of the vapour remains constant during fixing, reducing the time required to obtain a uniform dyeing. Drying between impregnation and fixing can be eliminated in many cases, and consumption of steam and electricity reduced.
