Abstract

The machine uses a rotating grinder (16) on an axially parallel rotating workpiece (11), providing for relative movement of the two in directions both perpendicular and parallel to the axes of revolution. The grinder displaces relative to the piece, and in a plane which is angled to that common to the axis (0) of the piece and the point (22) of grinder contact. The arrangement reduces operational vibration since the resultant of grinding forces falls between grinder supports. The machine substructure may provide a fixed support (9) for the piece, and may provide a track (12) guiding a slide (13) upon which the grinder-holder (15) is mounted. The slide can move parallel to the axis of the piece, and the holder can move on a perpendicular path.
