Abstract

A plant for sepg. solids and liquids by decantation comprises a closed conical shell in which are a number of baffles in the form of successive cones open at the top and placed concentrically at regular intervals. The baffles have a smooth wall and are provided with lateral openings and a bottom outlet. The whole is intended to create a horizontal labyrinthine path for creating sedimentation by crossed currents. The main application of the plant is in difficult industrial sepns. of two phases of densities near to one another, partic. in the field of brewing. It allows continuous sepn. of suspensions of fine particles in the must, gently and without expenditure of energy. Other examples are applications in the mfr. of paper, starch, sugar, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, and in effluent treatment. It provides a long path for the liq. without taking up a large space, and efficient discharge of sediments and clarified liq. without devices disturbing the flow.
