Abstract

A rotating spraying head of an irrigation system is driven by a hydraulic turbine which is powered by the water being used for irrigation. The turbine has an impeller (6) with a semitoroidal outer section (7) spanned by radial blades. The turbine casing (1) has tangential inlet and outlet pipes (3) which run into a curved channel (2) of semi-circular cross-section which is also spanned by radial blades. This type of hydraulic turbine can operate with water carrying sand or other solid matter in suspension without any risk of jamming.
