Abstract

The radial flow water turbine has a casing with the water inlet (2) running into a volute of progressively decreasing cross-section. Nozzles (4-11) are formed in the inner wall of the volute and equally spaced around the circumference. The water flowing through the nozzles impinges on the spiral blades (13) of the rotor (12). The blades are so shaped that each one of them is subjected to at least two jets of water issuing from the nozzles. The tips (29) of the blades (13) are turned outwards to increase the force of impact of the jet. The turbine is intended for under-water use for driving drills, grinders, brushes etc. The water leaving the turbine is deflected through ducts to create a thrust to assist hold the tool in the working position.
