Abstract
Two-phase stainless steel contains by wt. 10-75% ferrite, =0.03% S, 0.001-0.2% of >=1 of Y, Ce and La, 0.001-0.03% Ca, 0.001-0.09% Mg and =0.01% total P. It may also contain 0.06-6% Al, Ga, or In or other gp. III elements. In a further embodiment, the steel compsn. includes 0.005-0.02% C, 0.01-3% Si, 15-35% Cr, is not >15% Mu, 10-30% Ni, is not >0.05% Al, 0.01-0.4% N, and >=1 or =2% Nb, =1% Ti and either =3% Cu or =6% Mo, balance Fe and the inevitable impurities. The steel has much improved resistance to hot shortness during hot working esp. forging.
