Abstract

The bit allows core sampling while drilling, having a frame for fitting in the drill column, through which drilling fluid passes. A rotary valve is mounted on the frame, part at least of the drilling fluid flowing through it, and a shaft rotates in the frame. A motor (13) in the frame (11) has a drive shaft, and an operating characteristic determined by a condition measured at the well bottom by the tool. A drive mechanism transmits torque from the shaft to the valve (18), but prevents torque transmission in the reverse direction.
