Abstract

The universal extraction tool for removing brake drums from automobiles, automatically centres on the drum, and adapts easily to drums of different dia. The tool comprises a circular plate of e.g. steel with embossed central area(3) and a central threaded hole(2) together with two or more elongated segmental slots(1). The slots(1) are uniformly distributed to a spiral pattern about the hole(2). Demountable stepped screw-on studs(4) may be used to mount the plate, these screwing onto the drum-retaining studs and passing through the slots(1) to receive nuts (5) and washers(6). The hub may now be removed by screwing a bolt(7) into the hole(1). The bolt(7) penetrates progressively to bear on the hub whence a screw-jack action forces the drum off. Alternatively a bolt(8) with a sliding dolly(9) may be screwed into the hole(2) and the drum be removed by reciprocating the dolly(9) to obtain a hammer action.
