Abstract

A video disc recording system uses a composite disc that is optically scanned. The disc is constructed to avoid problems associated with internal optical reflections. The disc consists of a top layer of light sensitive material (12) bonded to a glass disc (11) with a reflective surface coating (S2). When the light source is focussed on the disc some light is transmitted throught the reflecting backing layer (S2) to maintain a suitable internal level. The light beam is modulated by the data and is focussed onto the track with a lens system.
