Abstract

A framework (15) is fixed to the bed of the sea or a river and carries vertical guides (26) which hold a float (12). The float is asymmetric so that the action of the waves makes it oscillate about its axis (24). A rod (22) from its axis operates a piston in a cylinder (18) fixed to the frame. This piston is moved by the vertical motion of the float as the water level rises and falls. A linkage (32) from one end of the float operates a piston in a second cylinder (34). This is operated by the rocking motion of the float produced by waves. The pistons are double acting and pump water into a hydraulic accumulator (40) which can be mounted on the shore.
