Abstract
A jacket for a thermocouple probe comprises a hollow tube made of glass fibre reinforced resin fitted with a hollow nose made of metal and partially filled with cast resin to improve thermal conductivity between the metal hose and the insulated sensor. Esp. claimed for probes spring loaded in with the nose in direct contact with e.g. the sleeve of a rotary bearing to indicate any overheating. The nose is extended by a tubular support which is a push-fit into the tubular reinforced resin sheath. The reinforced sheath is simpler to make than a composite resin-laid metal sheath, less susceptible to thermal shock and less prone to conducting stray induction currents.
