Abstract

The projectile has a long cylindrical body of high mechanical strength, one end of which is the solid percussion head. This part has the same dia. as the main casing except for the front end which is slightly truncated-cone shaped. An aerodynamic cap of weak mechanical strength fits over the truncated-cone shaped part. The head has a snub-nosed end that pref. has an angle towards the centre of 120 degrees. The inner part of the percussion head is progressively connected to the hollow cylindrical part of the casing. Used partic. for armour piercing ammunition. Design gives deep penetration with high angles of incidence, e.g. several cms. of armour plate at an angle of 70 degrees.
