Abstract

The wheelchair comprises a clutch mechanism in two parts, one part (29) projecting laterally from the lower end of a propelling lever and the other part connected to a driven wheel. The clutch parts are brought together when the lever is pivoted outwardly about a shaft to its propelling position. The lever is urged inwards towards its rest position by a compression spring. The lever is angularly oscillated about a shaft against a torsion spring to cause rotation of the drum (15). The drum carries a ring for mounting kerbstones, and a toothed wheel engaged by a chain driving the rear wheel.
