Abstract

The aiming system is for the automatic guidance of missiles at night. A picture of the thermal emission from the target and its surroundings is formed in a first or second window by a heat-detection and transmission unit. Simultaneously, and typically in the first window, by means of the same infrared optical unit, the picture coordinates of the missile are determined. The derived coordinates are used to correct the missile onto the target line. The missile can have a modulated light axis typically of light diodes, so that the modulation detected by the position determination unit forms a significant difference to identify the missile to be guided.
