Abstract

An expandable plug which receives a screw in order to fix objects to walls, floors etc. is made from a plastic tube (10). The bore of the tube is stepped from the relatively large diameter (2) at one end to a small diameter at the other. The end with the small bore is provided with a longitudinal zig-zag split (12) and a number of reinforcing rings (7). In the region of transition between the large bore and small bore, two diametrically opposite claws (20) are provided. The claws are deflected elastically into recesses (39) when the plug is forced into the fixing hole, but at the same time the claws bite into the wall of the hole and resist rotation when the screw is inserted.
