Abstract

The bi-fulcrum (5) lockable-hinge is for use between sections (2, 3) of extendable ladders, and on hoist-ladders in building construction. Use of the hinge permits the extension ladder (3) to be pivoted into a retracted position parallel to and against the base ladder (2), and allows the angular relationship between the two ladder (2, 3) sections to be varied over a wide range. The two ladder-sections may be joined by a hinge piece of two symmetrical trapezoidal plates (4) welded to the insides of the legs of a 'U' shaped rectangular hollow section brace (13). The bar of the 'U' lies parallel with and below the rungs (9) and may have pulley wheels for the hoist. A stub-axle (5) projects internally from each top corner of each plate (4) to enter sleeve pieces (7) which are bolted to the ladders.
