Abstract

The cell is made of two parallel plates sepd. by a distance piece, the three parts thus enclosing a space for the electro-optical fluid. The distance piece is cut from PTFE film, and the three parts sealed together at a controlled temp. and pressure. A pressure of 4 kg./cm.2 and a temp. of 350-450 degrees C. are pref. employed for >30 mins. The joint may be reinforced with an adhesive applied to the exterior of the finished cell. Parallel plates may be in glass, silica or metal, and may be covered with conducting, semi-conducting or dielectric material.
