Abstract

The leading side of the castor is fitted with a pivoted brake lever (26) which is pressed into the surface of the wheel by a cam lever (32) operated by the foot. The cam lever is coupled to the brake lever by side flanges (34) and has a roller (36) at the top end which presses onto a sprung plate (37) to press a brake pad (24) onto a circular part of the swivel, to act as a steering brake. The operating lever is short and compact. The brake lever has a simple screw adjustment (29) to take up wear in the brake pad (28) and the outer surface of the wheel.
