Abstract

The mobile device forms a retractable access gangway between a ship or vehicle and an external platform such as a quay, gangplank, bank etc. It comprises two or more sections hinging together. There is an intermediate section (310) mounted near the end of the inner section (301) nearest to the outer end section (302), and selectively lockable to the latter. This hinges coaxially to the hinge between the sections, so as to pivot on both. The intermediate section can comprise two arms on opposite sides of the hinge, and parallel to the lengthwise axes of the sections. There can be a shoe on the end of each arm, bearing against the platform, etc.
