Abstract

A grained finish is applied to both surfaces of thermoplastic film by passing the face of the film round an embossing roll while subject to pressure from (a) an elastic roll providing the back-pressure to impress the sheet into the embossing roll pattern, and (b) a supplementary embossing roll which impresses the exposes reverse face of the sheet while the main face is still engaged in the pattern on the main roll. Used for producing film or sheet of PVC, polyolefin, ABS, etc. where the surface texture of the reverse face can be other than that generated by conventional pressure rolls of natural or synthetic rubber of typically 60-85 degrees Shore A hardness. Method produces accurately registered patterns with no disturbance of the main face pattern during impression of the reverse face.
