Abstract
A system for converting and storing pneumatic energy from thermal energy consists of a reservoir of cold liquid (1), a reservoir of hot liquid (2), a heat exchanger (3) and a radiator (6). During the day the level of the cold reservoir is raised above the warm reservoir. The valve (4) is left open and its operating lever (20) disconnected cold liquid e.g. water flows into the heat exchanger (3) and begins to, rise in temperature. This in turn heats a working fluid (t) which displaces a piston (9) to compresses a bellows (10) which feeds air into the accumulator (13). At the top of the piston stroke, the valve (5) is opened causing the hot water to flow into the reservoir (2) and cold water to flow into the exchanger. This causes the working fluid to condense and retract the piston. At night the heat cycle is reversed by feeding hot water into the exchanger which emits heat.
