Abstract

A vertical partition of filtering material divides the body of the filter into two chambers: connections to the chambers are made through the floor of the filter, the dirty-oil inlet being direct and the cleaned-oil outlet at the top of a stand pipe which reaches from the bottom to the top of the filter body. The section of the oil circuit that contains this stand pipe is to have a barrier against air entering. If the filter is in two parts, each with its own cleaned-oil chamber, the dirty-oil inlet is to have a non-return valve. The barrier in the stand pipe circuit may be either a spring non-return valve, pref. placed in the stand pipe itself, or a siphon, pref. containing a cistern whose vol. is at least equal to that of all the other parts of that section of the oil circuit taken together.
