Abstract

Device is for swivelling a glass pane which is moving horizontally and in a straight path on an air cushion table. The pane is clamped near one edge by a pair of pads which are free to rotate; and the kinetic energy in the pane causes it to swing in a horizontal plane by e.g. 90 degrees. One edge of the pane then arrives between a conveyor belt and a row of spring loaded rollers so the movement of the pane continues either along the same path or along another path, e.g. at 90 degrees to the initial path. The movement of the pane pref. triggers limit switches to actuate the clamping pads and the conveyor belt so they come into contact with the pane. A damped aligning rail can be used when a pane is being transferred to a conveyor located at 90 degrees to the initial path of the pane. Used for a row of panes travelling rapidly along a conveyor belt. The panes can be turned through e.g. 90 degrees and then (a) travel along the same path; or (b) travel along a new path.
