Abstract

A valve assembly for closing and sealing an aperture which is full of bulk material comprises a housing defining an aperture, a closure member having the shape of a part of a spherical sheel and being mounted for rotation, about an axis passing through the centre of the sphere of which the closure member forms a part, between a first position in which the aperture is open and a second position in which the aperture is closed, and a sealing ring, mounted in the housing, which, when the closure member is in the second position, engages the convex surface of the closure member to provide a gas-tight seal between the opposite side of the closure member.
