Abstract

The manhole (1) provides access to inspect an underground pipe (5) and comprises several sections of concrete pipe (7, 8) fitted together to form a vertical access duct with ladder treads (E). This is closed by a concrete ring (9) and cast iron cover (15) at the top, cemented (19) into an annular flange (12). The lowest pipe section (7) has its base standing on the foundation block (3) and fitting over an internal splayed portion (6). The joint between pipe sections and pipe and foundation is sealed by an annular seal ring (16, 17), fitting in an end groove and compressed into place. These ends are flanged (11), cement (18) providing a final seal.
