Abstract

Parent patent describes tyre carcass construction with optimisation of relative cord axis angles for a combination of radial carcass plies and three superimposed layers of sub-tread bandages. The carcass plies are restricted to angles of 70-90 degrees to the circumferential axis in the sidewall regions and to smaller angles in the sub-tread zone. The cord axes of the three superimposed angles were designated alpha, beta and gamma respectively, with alpha for the layer adjacent to the carcass. The parent patent quoted a geometrical method for determining the optimum value for alpha as a function of beta and gamma, with tolerances on the preferred angle of plus or minus 30 degrees. This addition redefines the same technical criteria for alpha in the trigonometric terms. If beta > gamma and Beta and gamma are of opposite sign, then the limits are defined by (I). If gamma >beta and beta and gamma are of opposite sign, then symbols beta and gamma are interchanged in (I). If beta and gamma are of similar sign, then the first negative in the numerator and the negative in the denominator of (I) become positive. The optimum values for alpha and given in (II), (where epsilon = +1 or -1 if beta is of positive or negative sign respectively w.r.t. the circumferential vector). Beta and gamma are interchanged in (ii) and the sign for epsilon matches that for gamma. The -ve. Epsilon = +1 if beta and gamma are -ve.
