Abstract

The drive shaft passes through the fixed stub axle about which the wheel hub turns. The first epicyclic stage consists of a pinion (25) on the end of the drive shaft driving through five planet wheels (26) on a carrier (30) to the internally toothed, fixed sun wheel (28). The drive is then transmitted via internal teeth (32) on the carrier and a freely mounted pinion (34) on the drive shaft to a second set of five planet wheels mounted in a carrier (38) fixed on the stub axle. This second carrier is made in one piece with the first sun wheel (28). From the second set of planet wheels, the drive is transmitted to the hub via teeth (38) inside the hub. An anti friction ring (40) is placed between the first and second planet wheel carriers.
