Abstract

The motor vehicle door lock has a housing with a mounting face fitting on or behind the face of the door, and a notched catch rotating on an axis perpendicular to the mounting face. The release mechanism rotates in a plane parallel to the mounting face, and is mounted inside the outer face of the door. It extends beyond the face so as to allow the fingers to be inserted round the door edge and pull it towards the outer door face. The mechanism may comprise a handle opening the door after release of the lock, and can be of moulded plastics. There may be a release member actuated by the mechanism, and in the form of a pawl holding the catch in the engaged position.
