Abstract

11-Aminovincamones are prepared from 11-nitrovincamines by a process in which, in either order, the nitro group is reduced to an amino group and the vincamine is transformed into a vincamone by the action of a base. A typical prod. is (-) 11-aminovincamone. In an example, this was prepared as follows; 5 g (-)11-nitrovincamine was treated with 1.3 g K tert butylate in anhydrous benzene, refluxing for 6 hours, to give 3.5 g (-)11-nitrovincamone, m.pt. 186-188 degrees C. 3 g of this prod. in 50 ml 78% ethanol was treated with a solution of 200 mg calcium chloride in 0.3 ml water and 6 g powdered zinc. 2 hrs. reflux gave 2.1 g 11-aminovincamone, m.pt. 226-227 degrees C.
