Abstract

The buckle for safety belts of motor vehicles consists of a case fixed to the body work of the vehicle and two articulated levers (9, 10). The levers have hooks (18, 19) facing each other to grip a loop of the strap (11). There is also a wedge (12) which is interposed between the levers to immobilise them when the hooks are brought together. The sides of the wedge (27, 28) are inclined towards each other in the direction of penetration between the levers. There is a spring (24) which moves the levers to separate the hooks and this is operated by a push button.
