Abstract

A device for changing the direction of an elastic or elastoplastic material, e.g. hot or cold rolled steel strip, is described. At least two rollers are loosely mounted on a frame. These rollers with approximately horizontal axes are vertically spaced from each other. Their axes observed in projection on the same horizontal plane form between them an angle >10 degrees. The relative position of two successive rollers is such that the central fibre of the band passing over and tangential to these two rollers is perpendicular to any plane contg. the parallels to the axes of the two rollers. The arrangement is used in rolling mills where two units are at an angle to each other or parallel but displaced by a certain distance. The strip remains in tension as it changes direction. The size of the direction changing device is much reduced.
