Abstract

A self-steering vehicle carries a sensor to follow a cable embedded in the ground. It generates an error signal which represens a positional deviation. This signal is applied to control a steering wheel. A reverse sensor is also provided to generate an error signal referred to a virtual reference point behind the vehicle so that it can traverse the path in reverse. The forwards and reverse sensors may each consist of a pair of coils, spanning the guide cable.
