Abstract

Appts. for purificn. of industrial effluent polluted with oil comprises an inclined conveying band of steel which skims oil from the surface of the water in a settlement tank and lifts it to a scraper which cleans the oil from the band. The band is see-saw pivoted halfway along its length on a horizontal axis. The end of the band which dips into the liq. is fitted with floats which are sized so that the band surface remains in the oil layer as the level of liquid rises and falls. The band does not enter the water and so does not become coated with a thin water film.
