Abstract

A heat pump for room air conditioning to suit summer or winter conditions has a refrigeration unit which circulates the refrigeration fluid on one direction only around a circuit so that air is either heated or cooled. The air is heated in two successive stages by two separate heat exchangers without mixing the air and the refrigeration fluid. The heat is extracted from the stale air extracted from the room being air conditioned, before it is finally expelled. The flow of air is selectively directed by a set of control flaps, so as to form two treatment circuits at different temperatures. The vaporisation of the refrigeration fluid is brought about sometimes in the heat exchanger for the air, and sometimes in the heat exchanger for the refrigeration fluid. Also the condensation is brought about by alternative heat exchanger arrangements.
