Abstract

The bar manipulator is used on a roller track along which the bars move axially. The manipulator includes >=1 idling roller mounted on a vertical axle on a fixed chassis, and >=1 idling roller on a vertical axle mounted on a mobile chassis driven at 90 degrees to the axes of the bars. The novelty is that both idling rollers have a smooth, truncated cone surface, one roller tapering upwards, the other tapering downwards. At least one idling roller axle is pref. inclined in a vertical plane parallel with the bar axes, the object being to facilitate tilting the bars on their longitudinal axes. The fixed chassis is pref. fitted with parallelogram levers driven by a work cylinder to actuate the mobile chassis. The device is used for the sideways transport of bars which are also tilted or turned on their longitudinal axes, on a roller track before entering a rolling mill, esp. tilting bars with an oval or flat cross-section when using a three-high roll stand.
