Abstract

The spiral spring (15) surrounds the shock absorber body (10) of the damper cylinder and is attached (12) in the usual way to one end of the damper piston rod (12) close to a mounting bush (13). The other end of the spring is held by two half shells (20, 21) which when clamped together by screws (24) grip the body of the damper. The outside surface of the shells is formed into a coarse threat to fit the spring and at the lower and of the thread, an indentation (19) is formed. This indentation receives the inwardly turned end (16) of the spring, providing a position location. By slackening the clamp screws, the shells can be adjusted to grip the body in any position and thus set the spring load.
