Abstract

The epicyclic or hypocyclic reduction gear train is constructed with toothed belts. The body carries a drum inside the periphery of which is fixed a toothed belt. A concentric output shaft carries a similar drum which carries another toothed belt. The drums are adjacent and face each other so that an eccentric shaft carrying freely turning interconnected pinions and driven by the high speed input shaft can connect the two. A counter weight balances the eccentric shaft. In the case of hypocylic gears, it is possible to make the number of teeth on the pinions one less than on the ring gears. This feature enables almost all the teeth to be in mesh and thus increase the torque transmission capability.
