Abstract
1290169 Epicyclic gearing BENDIX CORP 1 Dec. 1969 [2 Dec 1968] 58607/69 Heading F2Q An epicyclic reduction gear comprises an output gear-wheel 18 or 106 coaxial with a stationary gear-wheel 14 or 118 and having a different number of teeth therefrom, a floating ring gear 30 or 112 with its axis 38 or 122 eccentric relative to the axis 28 or 120 of the output and stationary gear-wheels with which it is in mesh, an input shaft 54 or 126, and planetary rollers 60, 62, 64 or 132, 134 engaging the input shaft and the floating ring gear, one roller 60 or 132 being of greater diameter than the other(s) so that as the input shaft 54 or 126 rotates, the floating ring gear is caused to orbit about the axis 28 or 120 to cause rotation of the output gear 18 or 106. In the dynamically balanced gear of Figs. 1 and 2, a second floating ring gear 44 lies between two halves 32, 34 of the ring gear 30 and its eccentricity is 180 degrees out of phase with that of the gear 30. Pins 36 extending through clearance bores 45 in the gear 44 connect the two halves 32, 34 of gear 30 together. The rollers 72, 74, 76 for the gear 44 are spaced between the rollers 60, 62, 64. Teeth 70 on the shaft 54 mesh teeth 73 on the rollers 72, 74, 76 which in turn mesh teeth 48 in the ring gear 44. Teeth 58 on the shaft 54 mesh teeth 61 on the rollers 60, 62, 64, which in turn mesh teeth 42 in the ring gears 32, 34. Tyres (64) (Fig. 3, not shown) of high friction material on the rollers are in rolling engagement with the shaft 54 and the ring gears 30, 44. In Fig. 5, a carrier 142 supports the planet rollers 132, 134, which have friction tyres 136, 180 degrees apart. The floating ring gear 112 has external teeth 114 meshing the stationary gear 118 at one zone adjacent the roller 132, and internal teeth 110 meshing the output gear 106 at one zone adjacent the roller 134.
