Abstract

The outer race (2) of the roller bearing is made in two parts with an undulating joint line (18). The diameter (D1) of the race is slightly greater than the bore of the housing into which the bearing is fitted. The race is thus elastically deformed when installed, and grips the bore of the housing. Lubrication is provided through the radial hole (22). The inner race is of similar construction and grips the shaft as a result of elastic deformation. The undulating shape prevents any shock to the rollers as they roll over the joint. This method of construction obviates the need for close tolerances for the bearing bore and outside diameter.
