Abstract

Process consists of moving the tube at a constant speed relative to a spraying post so that one of the straight branches is subjected to a jet of metal or glass particles, then rotating the spraying post so that the semi-circular part of the tube is treated and finally moving the tube so that the other straight branch is treated. Suitable appts. incorporates a spraying post with e.g. three nozzles, arranged so as to spray all round the tube, and a rotating mechanism, a treatment chamber with inlet and outlet locks, a tube carrier and conveyors. The spraying post consists of a C shaped support with its upper branch horizontal and sliding along a bracket with a shaft which can rotate through a half turn at variable speed and in two directions. Arrangement allows uniform treatment over the whole surface of the straight and the curved parts of the hairpin tube without any need to change the setting of the spraying post during the treatment. The variables e.g. air press., size and quality of materials projected, angle to attack, proportion of material to air, speed, can be perfectly adjusted before treatment.
