Abstract

A folding seat (1) for public transport vehicles has pneumatic or hydraulic shock absorbers (14-16) absorbing the return impact of the seat (2). Damage and wear to seat supports is reduced. The seat is for mounting on partition walls (5) or in forming double seats with a common back rest structure. A coil spring (12) returns the seat. The shock absorber may be a piston (15) and cylinder (16). The damping effect may be achieved by a sliding non-sealed contact between the piston and the cylinder. A double cantilever arm (7, 8) may be used in the mechanism, with its front part (5) supporting the seat (2). The rear part (7) may terminate in a pinned (11) joint on the piston rod (14).
