Abstract

The valve (1) is symmetrical about the valve spindle (4) and has a joint flange (6) at each end. Each flange is provided with a spigot and with a number of equally spaced holes for bolting to a similar flange in the pipe line. The bore of the flange and adjacent body (7) is provided with a threaded insert (8) and a recess for an O-ring (9). This feature allows the valve to be installed in systems using pipes or sleeves with external threads and is particularly convenient for use with plastic pipes. This capability of use with either flanged or screwed joints cuts cost by reducing the numbers of types of valves needed.
