Abstract

The gauge measures the thickness of non-ferrous coatings (a) on a ferrous base (b). The coatings may be electrolytic, paints, plastic films, etc. A rod (2) made of magnetic material has one end (2a) in contact with the coating to be tested and the other end (2b) connected to a mobile magnet (3). A fixed magnetic mass (5) is subjected to the attraction of a magnet (3). An etalon gap separates the magnet from the mass. The magnet may be separated from the mass by a non-magnetic skin (4) forming a gap whose value is predetermined as a function of the thickness of the coating to be tested.
