Abstract

Disinfectants contain (1) 1-5C mono- and/or dialdehydes, and (b) an alkylalkanal of formula R1R2-CH-CHO (I) and/or an alkylalkanol of formula R1R2-CH-CH2OH (II), where R1 is 3-5C alkyl and R2 is 1-3C alkyl. The compsns. are less volatile than mixts. contg. major amts. of HCHO and are therefore more easily tolerated by the mucous membranes. Activity is increased. (I) is pref. 2-ethylhexanal and (II) is pref. 2-ethylhexano. The amt. of I and/or II is 0.1-10 wt. %.
