Abstract

The tunnelling machine forms caulted galleries when mining, and has excavator head mounted on a truck travelling on a fixed guide. The head has an endless chain with cutting tools. Part at least of the guide (13) for the truck (10) is vaulted, typically the top one, and the sides (16) are straight and extend downwards. It can have guide flanges extending in opposite direction, and the truck has C-section brackets fitting round the flanges. Each bracket can be equipped with rollers, on which it runs against the flanges. The guide can have two transverse racks extending in the axial direction and spaced apart, while the truck has pinions engaging with the racks.
