Abstract

The trailer is fitted with axles to spread the load and the separate trailing axles have wheels mounted on short stubs (2) pivoted at the ends of the axle (4). The axle slides inside a sleeve (7) with the sleeve fitted with tags (19) in the middle. The tags support hydro-pneumatic chambers (17, 20) which operate on telescopic, hydraulic steering arms (15) linked between the chambers and the ends of the pivot stubs. The wheels can be set to drag into a curve, with the pivots setting the wheels for self tracking. For reversing, the pneumatic inputs to the chambers are blocked to provide rigid axles. The wheels can also be straightened with the vehicle stationary, simply by applying pneumatic pressure.
