Abstract

The mixing tap has an inner body (1) with a piston (6) fitting in a central bore (4). The lower end of the body (1) has two diametrically opposite inlets (2, 3) for hot and cold water respectively. The piston (6) has a coaxial hole (8) extending for a short distance from its lower end. A number of radial slots penetrate the wall around the hole and extend 180 deg. around the circumference. Upwards movement of the piston (6) increases the area of the slots exposed to the inlets (2, 3) and controls the total flow. Rotating the piston controls the quantity flowing from each inlet and so controls the water temperature.
