Abstract

Permeable, bituminous linings for hydraulic engineering, comprise 55-80 wt.% mineral mixt.and 20-45 wt. % of asphalt which surrounds it and consists of 50-90 wt. % sand, 10-50 wt. % filler and 10-30 wt. % bitumen and have a permeable felt on their underside in contact with the ground. The linings are used in the construction of canals, coffer dams, etc. When an impervious layer of ground is not available on which to construct a canal, the canal lining must be permeable partic, when the H2O table is higher than the canal level. The invention avoids the disadvantages of previous types of permeable lining and provides a durability comparable with that of conventional impermeable linings. Compsn. in contact with coarse rock liable to displacement comprises a bituminous asphalt of good mechanical strength and substantial thickness (several mm.) instead of a thin layer of bitumen alone.
