Abstract

The process is for printing a mark, such as an excise stamp, on a bottle cap. A pigment is transferred hot from an evenly-impregnated strip. The equipment can include means for cheking that a cap is present, and the pressure and temperature of the transferring element, after which the latter is thrust downwards to press the strip against the cap. It can typically be in the form of a moving punch with an embossed die (37) acting against the cap (4) on the bottle. The presence of the cap can be detected by a device not reacting to the presence of glass, and the strip tension can be picked up by an arm actuating a microswitch. A pressure gauge can be used to check the punch pressure, and a thermostat for the temperature checking.
